Obedience Training:Pass The Biscuits , I'll Take Ten

By Marian

Obedience training is very important for your dog and you, it creates trust and a bond between your you and your pet. Dog and puppy training is not as hard as people think. In fact anyone can do it even a kitty can be trained by a dog or visa-versa.

My Grandmother, who was affectionately called Nana by everyone, was an animal lover. If she had no pets of her own she adopted every dog and cat in the neighborhood. But at this time she had pets. She had a little white untrimmed poodle named Peggy and a big red cat named Buddy Boy. All her red cats were Buddy something or something Buddy. She was particularly fond of red cats. To her, there were cats, then there were RED cats.

For a time she did not know why there were dog biscuits around all four legs of the dining room table. She could not figure out how this was possible. Each time she put the biscuits back in the box they would mysteriously appear around the table legs.

She was getting upset thinking that her children were the guilty ones. To discover the truth she waited around the kitchen, behind the door. There were no takers for her trap.

One day she caught the criminal duo in the act. Nana was washing dishes. The dog biscuits were kept under the sink. There sneaking up to the sink was Buddy Boy, her orange cat. He reached into the box of treats. Pulled out a biscuit and handed it to Peggy, the poodle. She ran into the dining room. Deposited her biscuit then went back to the kitchen sink ready to receive another.

Buddy Boy was well trained. If a dog and a cat can train each other. You should have no difficulty training your dog.

You can try many methods of obedience training. What works best will depend on your dog.

When training your dog food is sometimes best. There are dogs that enjoy a toy or affection over treats.

Which ever method of obedience training you decide on can be successful as long as you are patient and stick with the program.
