Learn How To Train Your Dog

By Matt McGrath

Well-behaved dogs are a joy to be around and fun to own. Most well-behaved dogs are the ones who have been through obedience training. As a responsible dog-owner it is up to you to make sure that your dog is appropriately trained in obedience. An untrained dog is aggravating to be around and causes many problems for their owners.

Training your dog appropriately will pay off for you as the owner in many ways. A well-trained dog will not create embarrassment for you and a well-trained dog will not require as many restrictions. Cooperation with neighbors and friends will be easier for you as your dog will not cause unnecessary problems. A well-trained dog always makes his owner look good.

Excessive barking, inappropriate jumping and other annoying habits of a improperly trained dog are annoying for the owner and can be disturbing for visitors. After all a visitor doesn't know your dog and may not know how to deal with his inappropriate behavior.

If you walk your dog in a public place you are much more inclined to be welcomed if your dog is well-mannered. Strangers, friends and family all receive you in a more welcoming manner with a well-behaved and properly trained dog. It is much easier for everyone if your dog has good manners and is well-behaved.

As a responsible dog owner you need to take care of your dog obedience training. Training a dog can strengthen the bond between the dog and his owner. Training a dog forges mutual respect, communication, and understanding and makes it clear to your dog that as his master and owner you are the "alpha dog". If your dog respects you as the leader you will avoid many problems especially if your dog is a high strung and rambunctious by nature.

If you want to keep your dog safe, obedience training is one of the most important things that you can do. If your dog slips out of his collar in the middle of a busy parking lot you will be able to control your dog until you are able to get to a safer place. If someone fails to lock your gate and your dog gets out you will be able to get your dog to return and you won't have to worry about the animal control people picking him up and locking him up. A well-trained dog will save you time, energy and frustration.

A well-behaved and properly trained dog is a joy to own. You will be able to take your dog anywhere and not risk awkwardness or fear for the safety of your dog or of other people. With proper dog obedience training your dog will exhibit appropriate behavior in a crowd, good manners around guests and he will be non-threatening to other pets and people and dependable around children.

You will enjoy having your dog much more if you take the time, energy and money to appropriately train your dog. Both you and your dog will be happier.
