Get Your Body In The Fat Burning Zone

By Jason King

Your body must be continuously burning fat to get six pack abs. Because of the internet, together with some misconceptions, the fat burning zone is a dissimilar location for a number of exercise gurus and fitness fanatics.

Lets get two weight loss myths concerning where the fat burning zone is out of the way, and they are talked about below.

Myth 1. A myth that has been with us for a long time now is your body begins burning fat after the first twenty minutes of a long cardio workout.

The reality is, your body is burning fat all the time to some extent, and if you're doing long boring cardio for an hour the first 20 minutes will burn just as much fat as the last 20 providing you still have the same amount of energy at the end of the session. And that won't be very much fat.

As you're reading this article your body is burning fat, your body won't just necessarily begin burning fat after 20 minutes of exercise. What would your body be doing for the first part of your cardio session if it wasn't burning calories of some degree.

If anything, the end of an hour of cardio would start burning muscle for energy.

Myth 2. Your body burns fat when you do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

When you first wake up in the morning the last thing your body wants is a cardio workout. Your body won't burn any more fat in the morning than it will if you exercise in the afternoon. Once you have some carbs in your body you'll have a much improved workout than if you attempt to exercise on an empty stomach. Carbs give you energy so your workouts will become more intense. You need to develop intensity into your workouts so your body burns fat after you've finished exercising.

If you want to get your body in the fat burning zone then you need to increase your muscle mass while using interval training. This will put your body in a fat burning state for 48 hours after you've finished exercising. If you're body isn't burning enough fat between your workouts then you'll never see your abs.

Just 3 workouts a week will have your body completely transformed in 12 weeks. Some fitness fanatics do long tedious cardio workouts 6 days a week for months without success. This is for the simple reason they've haven't in any way increaed their metabolic rate.

Discover Purebreds, Mutts and Designer Dogs Today

By Mike Jones

People have long had a love affair with mixed breed dogs or "mutts". These dogs tend to vary quite a lot in size, looks and temperament, even when they come from the same litter. Mutts regularly have very good healthiness and they make great pets.

A mutt has an unknown heritage. The parents are not as a rule purebreds and the heredity is basically unfamiliar. There are no records of their inherited line and their inheritance is dubious.

On the other hand a purebred has two parents of the identical breed. Many times there are extensive and well kept records concerning the ancestry of these dogs. Breeders are wary in their breeding actions to make sure that they bring into being the strongest behavior in their dogs.

You may prefer a purebred for a pet or you may desire a mutt. A mutt will usually have strong healthiness and they do make great pets but a purebred has particular traits that are bred in. There also is another preference that you may take into account and that is the hybrid dog or the "designer dog".

Hybrids are a cross of two purebred dogs from two distinct breeds. They are distinct from a mutt because their family is well-known. Each of their parents are purebreds with inherited lines that can regularly be traced back many generations.

Designer dogs are becoming fairly popular of late and rightly so. They tend to have the top characteristics of two distinct breeds and oftentimes they are the greatest of both breeds. They can take on the uniqueness of each breed or at times both breeds.

These designer dogs usually have cool names that are a blend of the two breed names such as puggle, for a pug and beagle mix, poogle for a poodle and pug mix, cockapoo for a cocker poodle mix, goldendoodle, which is a golden retriever and poodle mix and the list goes on and on.

A hybrid dog can be a great pet and if you cannot make your mind up on a specific breed a hybrid may be a excellent pet for you. They are usually the best of the two breeds and they tend to possess superior health than the standard purebred. They have personality from both breeds and they are usually very appealing and enjoyable dogs to possess!

A Crate Could Be Your Dog's Best Friend

By Olivia Samsoen

Let's talk crates and dogs. But before we do, let's clarify that the kinds of crates we'll be discussing aren't what some of you may be visualizing. These aren't wooden freight delivery crates full of mysterious artifacts from an Egyptian temple. Crating dogs is a general term for keeping your dog in a cage (called a crate) for the purposes of potty training and to provide it with a secure "home" it can call its own.

On coming over to visit my new puppy for the first time, my sister was shocked to see we had a cage for the dog in our living room. She couldn't believe that a couple who so loved their animals, donated to animal charities and worked as advocates for animal rights could be so cruel as to cage or "crate" their new dog. In truth, there was a time when I thought the same, but that was a product of being uninformed. Crating a dog (responsibly) can actually be a wonderful and beneficial tool for pet and owner alike.

The unfortunate reality is that crates carry a stigma simply by virtue of their looks. People just assume that having a crate in your home means you're inclined to lock your dog away for the slightest infraction. But that certainly isn't the expected use for these things. Your dog's cage should become a welcome sanctuary, like a wolf den.

Used properly, your dog will learn to love his crate. Though we haven't needed to close the door in years, our dog (one of 3) is now 10 and still walks into her crate through out the day to nap, escape from rambunctious children and to hide from passing thunderstorms. Her crate is her home within a home and a sanctuary.

Most dogs learn to love their crates and, trust me, you will learn to love this training technique as well if you apply it properly. Knowing that your dog is safe and secure when a repair man comes is just one of the benefits of crate training, but the main point is to help potty train your dog.

It can't be stressed enough, however, that you must use your crate properly or you will completely defeat its purpose and risk emotional damage to your dog. First and foremost, don't leave your puppy in its crate for longer than five hours and only that if it's unavoidable (because of your job, for example). While the premise behind the crate is to play on your dog's instinct not to eliminate where it sleeps, even the strongest instinct can't win out against a young dog's bladder.

You should never use the crate as a means of punishment for bad behavior. Remember, to effectively serve as a potty training aid, your dog must think of the crate as its home and sanctuary. You're trying to play on his inclination to avoid eliminating where he sleeps. If you punish him by crating him, you will confound the effort. He won't see his crate as a home in which he shouldn't poop but will treat it with the same indifference as your expensive rug. Make his crate his sanctuary and it will serve its purpose best.

Choosing a crate for your dog is less about style than it is about size. You're shooting for something large enough to allow your dog to sleep comfortably and turn around in. But bigger isn't better. Too large of a crate will defeat potty training purposes and your dog may eliminate in one corner while sleeping in another. If you purchase a larger crate because your dog is still growing, use a divider to make it small enough to accommodate your dog and your potty-training objective.

Our dog's crate is the standard metal "wire" cage. This model breaks down easily for relocation or storage, allows for good airflow and let's the dog view the world around it. To enhance the den simulation, we toss a blanket over it (leaving the door exposed) at night. For those of you with puppies, the removable tray in the bottom is great for easy cleanup. Your puppy will almost inevitably have an accident or two at first and this feature is a real time saver.

Overall, crates, when used correctly, are wonderful training tools. If you really dont like the idea of a crate, then a puppy play pen might be more your speed. No matter which you choose, it is important to keep your puppy safe from potentially dangerous situations.

The Pros Guide To Puppy Training

By Gillian Mortensen

Congratulations on the new addition to your family - the puppy. What a cute little one he/she is. The puppy is fun to observe as you watch him/her walk around, looking at everything and taking it all in. If your puppy has come home for the first time, then it is very important to be prepared for the training techniques. Within this article, we are going to give you some information on puppy training done the right way.

You may not realize this right now, but those first couple of weeks you have you puppy in the home is very critical. Before you got you puppy, you should have gotten certain items such as a dog crate or dog bed, water bowls, puppy chow, leash, toys, collar, etc. All of the family members should have decided and agreed upon the responsibility, rules and the routine.

You wake up, your puppy gets some water, you take your puppy for a walk, your puppy comes back in, he or she eats and drinks, then she plays for a little while, goes back outside, takes a nap, etc. That's only half the day for your puppy.

Everyone has previously agreed that the puppy should not be jumping on them, but during the excitement, no one even notices the puppy is jumping on them. So there you are, the puppy has won and got to sleep in the bed and the next morning, there is puppy odor all over the bed from urinating. Therefore, the following night, the new puppy is in the crate and there he or she sits, yelping all night. No one in the house gets sleep.

The grouchiness starts to set in and the enthusiasm stoops down to an all time low. No one in the house wants to get up and feed the puppy, as they previously agreed. How are you going to housetrain that puppy? How are you going to seep with that whining? You know, that new puppy has been taken away from the mom and the other littermates.

When you're learning how to train your puppy, you need to make sure you don't allow your puppy to do other things, during the training sessions, he or she will get used to that routine. For instance, if you allow your puppy to make his or her own routine, they will begin to think what they are doing just fine. Allowing your puppy to sleep in your bed is probably a big no no. Instead of your puppy sleeping in the bed, he or she should try to sleep in his or her own bed or in a crate.

Take note that when you are trying to get your puppy to sleep in the crate or in his or her own bed for the first time, it is going to take some work. After the first couple of nights of yelping from your puppy, your puppy will begin to get used to it and will peacefully sleep.

As we stated, there are many professional puppy trainers located throughout this world that know the proper procedures of puppy training. If you ever have any problems with your puppy training and your puppy is out of hand, then do not just drop them off on the side of the road or at a pound. Talk to the professional puppy trainers about the situation, that puppy is your responsibility.

Sit ...you Idiot!

By Kathy Davison

One of the first daily routines to be established with any new puppy and perhaps some adult dogs that are new is where and when it is appropriate to relieve themselves.

We have to accept that there will be accidents indoors and never punish your puppy or your adult dog for these accidents. Going to the toilet is a normal bodily function and as far as the dog is concerned and especially the puppy, when they need to go then they go where they happen to be.

The fact that the delivery of faeces or urine on the carpet is obnoxious to us is a concept that dogs do not understand. The old wives tale of rubbing the dogs nose in it or throwing the puppy outside so that they will learn that it is wrong is misguided. The fact that puppies trained this way do eventually become house trained is more luck than anything else .They would have become house trained anyway.

What this does is build up mistrust between dog and the owner and confuses the dog to only make a human even more difficult to understand than they already are! The puppy will need to go to the toilet frequently and so it is up to you to ensure that when the need arises the puppy is in the appropriate place to do the required action. As such take the puppy into the garden as soon as he wakens, as soon as he has eaten, when he awakens after a sleep ,after playtime and every hour apart from that!

The need to visit the garden will reduce as the number of mealtimes reduces. At 7 weeks old your puppy could be having up to 6 meals a day which will reduce to 2 by the time he is about 6 months old. It is important to take the puppy into the garden .If you simply put him outside he may just sniff around and forget what he is out there to do .

This could result in him coming indoors and peeing on the carpet. If you are not outside to reward him when he goes then he will not learn that going outside to the toilet pleases you whereas when he performs the same action indoors it gets ignored.

If you learn how to use treats to reward him when he goes you can combine this with a simple sound or word so that he will learn to go on command To begin with you may find you have to stay outside for quite a while with the puppy before he performs the required action. Do not be tempted into a game or he will never do what you are looking for.

Without losing sign of him try and ignore him removing any toys he may bring to you to play with. Do not get cross or impatient. It may be cold raining or thundering but he still needs to go to the toilet!

Stopping Your Dog From Barking

By Ted Johnson

Whether you own a English Mastiff, a Sheepdog, or a Bischon, it can be challenging to get your dog to stop barking too much. Different breeds are triggered by different things, from noises to movement. Each breed seems to have its own nuisances for barking. Determining the reason your dog barks so much can be a key to learning to master out of control barking.

Some dogs just seem to bark far too often without any reason. That is just the way they are. While some people can handle the constant barking, others cannot. However, it is important to keep in mind that dogs use their vocal skills like people. They bark to communicate with you or other members of their pack. Never try to stop your dog from barking altogether. Teach your dog when it is okay to bark and when they must stop barking.

If barking annoys you, don't choose a dog breed that is known to bark a lot. Because different dogs are bred for different reasons, some dogs are intended to bark more than others. For example, dogs bred to be used as watch dogs or hunting dogs need to bark a lot. Different dogs have different kinds of barks, from high pitched squeaking to low growls. Learn about different breeds and their bard before you get a dog.

Once you get a dog, don't let it teach you to respond to incessant barking. If you get up and do what your dog wants just because it doesn't stop barking, you are only rewarding the problem. Respond to your dog once she quiets down. This will train your dog to understand which behaviors will get her rewarded.

When your dog starts to bark, give him a few seconds to get it out of his system. If the barking persists clasp your hand firmly, but gently around your dog's muzzle. If the dog tries to escape your grasp and continue barking reach out with your other hand and hold her by the collar.

Sometimes pet owners can figure out why their dog is barking and sometimes they cannot. I thought we would never get our Bischon to stop barking at every little noise, so I had to get outside help. You may think it's odd to get help to stop your dog's barking. Actually, it isn't uncommon for dog owners to get help. I know because my dog no longer barks at every noise, day and night.

The Important Role You Play in Stopping Animal Abuse

By Ulf Merkheimer

Hey you, yes, you! Do you know the signs to look for when it comes to animal abuse?! Do you do your part when it comes to protecting our furry four-legged friends? Unfortunately, animal abuse still exists in our world today but with education and team work, maybe, just maybe, we can make it a thing of the past.

Recognize that there are resources available to help you recognize the signs of animal abuse and to help put a stop to it. In 2008, the ASPCA, for example, partnered with a program called Do Something! Aimed at educating teens, Do Something provides an online community where teens can gather and discuss ways in which they can help make the world a better place. One of the topics covered and discussed on a daily basis is animal welfare.

Do Something's teen-friendly web content covering animal welfare is quite popular and a tremendous success at offering "humane education." Since inception, ten $500 grants have been awarded by the ASPCA to teens who have stepped up and implemented their own animal welfare projects. It's tremendously encouraging to me to see our children taking such an active role in important issues today.

If you're wondering what "humane education" is, the ASPCA and Do Something teach us how to care for animals both in our homes and in our communities. The premise fosters respect, empathy and kindness for all beings (on two feet, 4 feet or more), and teaches responsible stewardship for the environment and its inhabitants. The one overriding goal of humane education is to make our planet a more humane and kind place to live.

Changing the world requires help and contribution from people just like you. If making a difference and improving the world we'll hand down to our children appeals to you, you may be wondering how you can get started. It starts with little things that can ultimately make you a contributing member of the community looking out for animal welfare.

Knowing who to call if you witness or suspect animal abuse is perhaps the most fundamental step in making a difference. Take the time to find your local Humane Society number and keep it handy. More useful in a general sense is your local police non-emergency number.

Once you know who to call, know what circumstances warrant calling. Obviously, witnessing a dog being beaten represents a justifiable situation for calling, but dogs left chained outside without adequate food or water, for excessive durations or for hours during cold winter months also warrant a call for help. All you need do is youre your eyes open for issues of clear neglect or abuse.

Take the time to educate your children. Do your part to instill compassion and respect for animals and set a good example.3 Ensure that your children know that animals suffer much like humans, experiencing pain, sadness. Perhaps more than any other action you can take, teaching your children to respect and care for animals paves the road for a better future.

Get involved but don't get involved. That one requires a little explaining. What I mean is that you should leave action to the professionals and those with the authority to act. Do not intervene directly by confronting an abuser yourself. Doing so exposes you and your family to the risk of retaliation. Call your police non-emergency number or your local humane society. They are best equipped to get the job done and will almost always accept anonymous reports.

Get involved in programs and activities geared towards the creation of stronger penalties. While laws may stop the abuse after it has begun, harsh penalties act as deterrents to prevent abuse in the first place. As an advocate for animal welfare, you can do your part by joining such movements as the ASPCA Advocacy Brigade and writing to your local legislators and representatives. If you are a real go-getter, start your own community action efforts and get some petitions under the noses of those who can make a difference.

There are many things you can do to help animals and prevent animal abuse. You don't have to spend a lot of money or give up a lot of time, all you have to do is open your heart and be aware of what is going on in your community. Together, we can make this world a kinder and safer place. Not only do humans deserve fair and kind treatment, animals do as well. So jump on board.let's fight animal cruelty together!

Beagle Training Tips

Every person I know simply loves a Beagle when they see one in their daily lives. True, Beagles are always very cute with their expectant eyes and friendly attitude. But training them can be a chore.

If you want to train a Beagle the right way then you need to possess this essential trait: you would need loads of diligence for training it. Don't give up too easily once you decide to train a Beagle. You need to exude plenty of dedication in training your Beagle.

A Beagle is basically a hunting dog and thus gets lose focus effortlessly, ready to run around from place to place for no reason at all. Make an effort to divert the unrestrained energy in your Beagle into a productive type instead. This means , you must take it for extended walks. Plus remember to take it for a swim or a hike.

This is essential because when a Beagle doesn't get any activity to make use of its energy, then it becomes restless and causes a lot of unwanted indoor destruction. It tends to keep on chewing or digging things. Remember to take your pet Beagle outside your house wearing a leash; this will help you avoid any unwanted problems when you are at a public place.Be assertive when you are with your pet Beagle. Remember this as a Beagle always responds much better to a person who's in total command of the situation. Don't wait till your Beagle becomes too old to start your training program.

The truth is, if you wait to train it after it has grown very old, you will not have a positive outcome on its training. You can start your Beagle's training from the age of eight weeks. Start with all the basic commands such as stand, sit, down, heel, etc. Once it fulfills these basic commands, it shows that you are succeeding at your training attempt. You then need to go to the next level of training – continue with the commands which you have planned for your Beagle at the next stage.

If you have a property without a fence, install some fences so that the Beagle doesn't get lost while trying to roam away from your home. This will help you from preventing your pet from getting hurt in any possible way. A Beagle is a pack animal – it always prefers to be with a group. Thus they will always look forward to being with you. Never try to keep a Beagle alone for long periods of time. This will make them bad tempered and lazy. It's also not good for their health as they tend to put on unwanted extra weight on their bodies. Since a Beagle has a sharp sense of smell, when trained well, it can be used for detection work of various kinds. Thus all your efforts spent on your Beagle will turn to be of great use.

How To Help Your Dog Stop Barking

By Ted Johnson

A constantly barking dog can be a huge nuisance. It is challenging to learn how to stop your dog from barking, because there are any number of things that sets off constant barking. Then, each breed is also unique. Figuring out what causes your dog to bark can help you figure out exactly how to teach your dog to control this behavior.

Some people don't mind constant barking, but many others do. Sometimes the fact is that you have dog that just barks too much. While it is important to remember your dog is using his or her bark to communicate with their owner and other dogs, constant barking is unnecessary. Just don't go too far and try to stop your dog from barking completely. It's completely appropriate for dogs to bark at some times.

First, research the type of dog you want before you get a dog. Knowing the purpose of a dog breed will give you a lot of information about how much the dog may bark. Don't choose a dog bred for hunting or for stopping intruders.

Your dog may try to teach you to respond when she barks. For example, she may drop a ball in your lap and expect you to jump up and come outside to play. You can help control the barking by only getting up after she is quiet. Train her to understand that you will not reward constant, unnecessary barking.

How To Deal With The Chewing Puppy Syndrome

By Brad Davenport

When you welcome home a new canine member, you are actually welcoming a bundle of warmth and love that has winsome eyes and covered with soft fur. However, this cute little puppy has one unavoidable drawback and that is the chewing puppy syndrome.

They're pretty indiscriminate in their chewing object of choice. Chewing is as natural to a puppy as a duck in water. It's what they do. When your fluffy friend exercises his God-given right to be a chewing puppy, there's bound to be some losses sustained all around the household. When your teenage daughter presents you with her favorite sweater in shreds and tears in her eyes, you know it's time to curb this habit " but how?

Before you embark on an anti-chewing puppy project, you should first understand the need and reason behind his obsessive habit. The main reason might be because he is teething and trying to relieve the pain by chewing on anything that takes his fancy.

Most often due to their high sensitivity to smell, they like to chew on objects that have the lingering scent of a family member. Sometimes they chew to ascertain their position as the top dog of the family and that includes you and your family. There is no doubt that a puppy cannot resist a good chew, but if this syndrome is left unchecked, he will never outgrow his habit and you will have to end up with a grown dog who still favors you favorite pair of shoes.

You first step to break his behavior is to go for a shopping trip to a pet shop. Shop for some puppy toys that he will love to chew like fake bones, knotted sisal ropes and hard rubber balls. Once you have these with you, you just have to teach him all these goodies are his to chew and everything else is taboo.

Let him have a go at these toys and allow him to chew to his hearts content. But the minute you see him eyeing one of your shoes or other household items, round him up and admonish him with the phrase Bad Dog! or a firm No!. This phrase will register in his mind and you can use it later to train him for other behaviours.

The only punishment you should administer to your chewing puppy is the disapproval in your voice, followed by leading him to his own toys in a restricted area. This can be as simple as a large cardboard box or as fancy as a dog crate. Let him have his own toys and chew to his heart's content. With this simple process, he will eventually learn what belongs to whom!

Puppy Training For Housebreaking

When you start your puppy training, housebreaking I'm sure is right at the top of your list.

Nobody wants to to be constantly cleaning up messes in the house left by your lovable bundle of fur, so the sooner you start the process the sooner you are going to have a puppy that knows that the the only place to go potty is outside.

One school of thought is to start the training process the moment you arrive home with your puppy. Besides, if you've had to drive any distance to get your new pet I'm sure everyone has to go potty and that includes the newest addition to your family.

Take your puppy to a secluded part of the yard and start your first potty training lesson. It wont hurt to also start using whatever word you want to associate with this activity. Hint: Potty and Go Potty seem to work real well. As soon as your puppy relieves himself, praise him! See? That wasn't to hard now was it?

What you have to remember when dealing with puppy training, housebreaking is a task of patience, vigilance and being consistent. If you start your puppy on a routine, try not to vary that routine. Makes sense right?

Speaking of routines, the more you know about your puppies urges, or to be more precise, when he has to go to potty, the easier it is to to train him. Most of these are common sense tips, but it never hurts to go over them. So with that said, let's take a look at a few.

If your puppy is brand new, usually around six to eight weeks old, that adorable little creature should be taken out at least every one to 3 hours. As he gets older naturally this is going to change.

Also, your puppy needs to be taken out first thing in the morning and last thing at night before bedtime. Get into a routine and try to stick to it! Puppy training, housebreaking especially, is a matter of repetition. Remember, you're modifying a behavior.

Other times you need to take him out is after he eats, usually about an hour after works well. After you play with him and get him all excited, after he awakes from one of his many naps and after he has been left alone for any length of time.

Another thing you have to realize in puppy training, housebreaking is a matter of observing your puppies behaviors.

Is he or she acting restless or sniffing around or doing something that seems out of character? If he is, better take him out potty if you don't want to find an unexpected present! Close supervision of your puppy while you are housebreaking him is absolutely essential.

Most experts agree that when you start the task of puppy training, housebreaking will normally take around 4 to 6 weeks before you can finally rest easy.

If you keep at it, use lots of praise for the good behaviors and have the patience, your efforts will pay off. And if you get stuck or want to learn even more, just the use the library at your fingertips to gain even more knowledge. It certainly cant hurt, right?

Potty Training Puppies Help and Information

By Todd Hammerstein

Getting a new puppy? I'll bet you are so excited. I'm not going to break your excitement, but I will tell you that once you get your puppy home he will push your patience further than you thought it could go. One of the first, and most difficult, tasks is to teach your dog to go outside to potty. This takes patience and effort on your part.

If you try potty training your puppy to go outdoors too soon, say at one month, you will probably meet with little success. Wait until your puppy is at least two months old to get started potty training in the great outdoors. If the puppy is with its mother, you may have an easier task of training, as the puppy will tend to take its cues from the mother. Otherwise, one thing you need to do is establish a routine.

Instead of running your puppy outside every few minutes, start with thirty minute intervals. The times between going outside can be longer or shorter depending on your dog. Then, take your puppy out around mealtime, so that your own meal will not be interrupted to jump up and run outside with your puppy.

Get a routine going and maintain it and you will have your puppy potty trained in no time. Trust me; it seems to take forever if you don't work with your dog on a schedule. You and your puppy will be more happy with a schedule which you intend to stick with.

If you think working on a routine takes potty training your dog too far, reconsider. Establishing a routine is a proven way to train your dog and it is pretty simple to establish a regular routine. Your dog will learn more easily when following a routine.

Puppies that refuse to potty outside can be especially perplexing. Try to figure out why they refuse to go outside. Try taking them to a different place in the yard. With a little effort you will get your puppy potty trained and can move on to other puppy training adventures.

Feeding Fido

By Kathy Davison

Having the correct knowledge of what to feed your dog can be very confusing. Every expert out there has his own favourite canine diet and there is such a vast selection of dog food available that it can be quite overwhelming for the first time dog owner to decide what to feed.

In fact lets be honest even us long time dog owners get caught up in all the different opinions and information and who knows what is what? Think of it----Fresh, tinned, dried, vacuum-packed ..the list is never ending. Obviously a puppy has a different food requirement from an adult and older dog so make sure that you feed the puppy the correct puppy diet from the choice of food available.

The majority of pet shops and many vets will probably advise feeding your new puppy or dog on a complete dried food which is considered nutritionally balanced. Some will suggest tinned food or vacuum packed meat products. These types of food are numerous and varied and are advertised as suitable for most dogs. In fact most of the advertising will suggest that it is the only way to feed your dog if you want him or her to have a prolonged and healthy life. To discuss each and every type of manufactured food product would be a major book in itself so lets look here at another choice...the Natural diet.

This diet is structured on what your dog would eat in the wild and what wolves eat in the wild today. It is a diet based on raw meaty bones and what most people fed their dogs until the dog food manufacturers took over about 30-40 years ago. It is the diet that your dog is designed to eat. They have the teeth to tear, shred, rip flesh and crunch bones and their stomachs are designed to digest both raw meat and raw bones. Remember that dogs are carnivores and their diet would be mostly meat and bones. They may eat the stomach contents of prey ,that is the vegetable matter but it is not a vital part of their diet and they do not need it.

Most vets will recommend one of the commercial diets as the instructions are on the packet and they do not have the time in a normal consultation to go into the benefits of natural feeding and the quantities needed. Some vets sell dried dog food and so will recommend it. Some pet food manufacturers sponsor Vet colleges so therefore the alternative ways of feeding are not given priority or even discussed and veterinary students do not learn them.

In fact to be honest many dog owners are told that raw uncooked bones are bad for their dogs. The ease of opening a tin,or scooping out a couple of mug fulls of dried food is simple, requiring little or no thought which suits the busy lives that many owners now lead. The fact that there is now a massive multimillion pound industry which effectively tells dog owners that they the owners couldn't possibly work out how and what to feed their dogs on their own,has lead to increasing numbers of dog owners accepting that the manufacturers must know best and being drawn into buying commercially prepared food and artificial bones.

All tinned and processed foods have been cooked and the resulting changes in the structure of the food means that the dogs digestive system has to work much harder as it was designed to digest raw ingredients. Then there is the major effect that cooked processed food has on the dogs teeth. The majority of dogs fed on an artificial diet will have to have their dirty teeth and infected gums attended to by a Vet several times through their lives. The processed food gets stuck in the teeth causing infection. Just take a look at at your own teeth after you have eaten dried food like a biscuit.....that's what your dogs teeth look like after eating dried pellets. Even using artificially produced teeth cleaning products will leave a deposit on the dogs teeth.! Bacteria enter the body through the diseased and infected gums and teeth and this can set up chronic infections which later may result in liver, heart or kidney problems.

Cleaning your dogs teeth is not going to remove all the gunge and honestly who is going to clean their dogs teeth twice a day! By eating raw bones the dogs floss their own teeth in the ripping and shredding action. The only teeth that need to be artificially cleaned are the canine teeth which are the teeth designed for killing the prey and are not involved in the ripping and grinding motion. Try cleaning your dogs teeth with an electric toothbrush ...not as bad as you think! If you start when they are a puppy I can assure you they will get used to it.

4 Methods to Choose a Dog Collar

By T. Clark

It is a very simple process to pick a collar for your dog. There are lots of ways to decide, but we will only be discussing four of them in this article.

An easy first step to take is to measure the size of your dog's neck. You can easily do this by using a tape measure. Once you have the measurements you can compare to the collar package. Be sure that you can always fit two fingers between the collar and your dog's neck.

The next thing I would suggest is that you weight your pet. Many times you can tell which size collar you need by the weight listed on the package of the collar. This is another way to possibly tell how thick of a collar you will need.

Third I would say pay attention to what the collar is made of. Leather collars can break if too much pressure is applied to them. This is something you always want to think about if your dog is not trained and like to pull you around. Another thing to consider about leather is that it often cracks when it gets washed or wet.

The fourth thing I would recommend is to determine what the purpose of the collar is. Ask yourself if you are buying the collar for training purposes or for the simple purposes of identification or walking your dogs. If the collar is for training purposes you should go into a bit more detail on choosing one. If the collar is for the simple purpose of walking the dog than its a lot less complicated.

In general choosing a collar for your dog is really an easy task. As long as the collar fits and looks good on your dog everything will be fine. When you find a collar in the price range you want to pay go for it.

Ab Machines Make Yoru Pocket Smaller Than Your Waistline

By Jason King

Millions of hard earned dollars are spent on gimmick ab machines every month by people expecting to get a six pack stomach in return for some easy exercises. These companies are making a fortune selling machines that don't even do the job they are intended for.

The infomercials that you see on all the shopping channels have models with toned stomachs using the apparatus to illustrate the outcome you should obtain. The trouble is, the models had their flat, wash board abs previous to using the apparatus they're using.

You can exercise with every piece of equipment ever created to flatten your abdomen, but if you possess a coating of fat over your stomach then you'll never have a washboard set of abs. There's a lot more to getting a six pack stomach than exercising with a useless piece of equipment to tone muscles that you already possess.

These companies lead you to believe that you don't already have muscles on your stomach, when actually, everyone does. All you need to do is drop the fat on your abdomen and then your toned abdomen will be exposed. Doing 20 minutes a day on their equipment won't expose your abs any more than they are now.

Washboard abs require you to increase your metabolism so your body burns the excess fat you're carrying. Stomach exercises are just a tiny part of actually getting a flat stomach. The priority is burning fat so your muscles can be seen. A thousand crunches every day won't get you a six pack if you're in possession of a layer of fat on your belly.

To lose fat you must use whole body workouts so you raise your metabolism to the position where it burns fat for 48 hours after your workout has finished. This is done by exercising as many muscles as possible in a short amount of time. Just exercising your abs on a new machine you've purchased will not get rid of the fat on your stomach. It will tone your muscles slightly, but the fat that covers them will prevent you seeing them any more than before you started using your new equipment.

You only need to do 3 powerful workouts a week of 45 minutes to entirely change your body into something you've forever dreamed of. Your metabolism is the secret to achieving a washboard stomach, and not some piece of equipment that has been demonstrated by a fitness model who has previously rocket fueled their own metabolic rate before they ever got on that ab machine.

Dog completely out of control? Dog Obedience Training can turn things around!

By karl Hernandez

Dogs are one of the best friends you can have, thus they are commonly regarded to as ?man?s best friend?. What if your dog doesn't obey, fails to listen, barks, chews and just plain misbehaves. You say you have tried to train him but to no avail you only get a growl in return?

The above mentioned scenarios are definitely frustrating for a dog owner. You maybe very keen to teach your dog how to behave as he should, but to no avail. So, before your dog claims the position of being master, now is the best time to teach him who the real boss is. This kind of introduction will help you draw the line between the leader and the follower.

In fact, dog obedience training is on the cards albeit a difficult and challenging task. This domestic animal wasn't really born dogged and unruly. A dog?s significant reputation of being well-trained, reliable and companionable still towers above the down points. And so, regardless of off-putting and negative traits your pooch may possibly possess, the fundamental truth that they can still be tamed is something that you should focus on.

In this article, the main point deals with simple commands and orders used to train and establish leadership and obedience among dogs.

Positive reinforcement is one of the most efective and widely used training methods used today. New handlers wanting to instill obedience of simple commands in their dogs can implement positive reinforcement training with great results.

Positive reinforcement is used by rewarding the dog with treats for positive behavior. For instance, teaching your dog the basic "sit" command, if your pooch acknowledges your order and without much ado executes as you've commanded, a simple praise or a treat provides further encouragement and motivation to your dog. If he does otherwise, an easy pat on the rear will help signal your pooch to keep on trying.

Moreover, dog obedience training can also be performed through dog training collars. These types of collars are fast becoming popular among dog owners, as it makes way for easy handling and training. Contrary to reports that dog training collars aren?t animal friendly and advocates dog cruelty, these collars serve as good foundation towards training your pooch to listen, obey and act upon.

Hence, the next time you have a growl for an answer, you can tame your pooch by employing dog obedience training. The process may be lengthy and lingering, but the reward of domesticating your dog the proper way is nothing compared to the rigorous training you and your pooch have gone through.

Companion Dog Training Made Easy

Companion dog training is really no different than more advanced training in its principles. All types of training should involve structure and boundaries with clearly defined rules but should be done in a consistent and fun manner. The main difference between companion dog training and more advanced types of training is really the depth of the training.

For example, all dogs should know a stay command. A stay for companion dog training may be short, only a minute or two, and not very far away from the handler; whereas, more advanced training might require a stay of more than 10 minutes in duration and be out of sight from the handler. Companion dog training should include commands such as: sit, down, come, wait/stay, loose leash walking, off (of furniture and people), give or drop it, and leave it. These are the foundation for a well rounded program of companion dog training.

All of these skills can easily be taught (and should be) in a positive and motivational manner. When we train our dogs using motivation instead of force or compulsion, we tap into what our dogs most desire. Just like with people, when a dog wants something, it will work hard to figure out how to get it. Motivation allows us to use these desires to train in more reliably the commands we would like for our dogs to know.

There are different kinds of motivation that can be used effectively in both companion dog training and more advanced types of training. Motivation is anything your dog wants: toys, high value food items like hot dogs, cheese, or jerky, attention and petting, playtime outside, a walk, etc. Motivation also can be used effectively to teach dogs about impulse control and patience. When a dog has to wait to receive its dinner or sit before going outside, it learns that it has to control its impulses and limit its frustration to receive what it wants. Teaching a dog patience should be a cornerstone of companion dog training. The best way to begin a companion dog training program is to invest the time and money in a knowledgeable and patient dog training professional. The Association of Pet

Dog Trainers has a large membership of qualified professionals to select from as do many local Kennel Clubs. A dog training school, club, or professional should always care about what is in the best interest of your dog, have the experience and knowledge, and have the communications skills to convey it. They should be flexible with you and allow you to ask questions as well. Companion dog training should be fun and interesting for both you and your dog. Companion dog training is fun and easy when you set boundaries for your dog using the different commands, teach him patience by asking him to do commands to get what he wants, work with motivations that matter to him, and have the knowledge to train gained from working with a professional.
